John Hawkins, apparent right wing writer (I say this because he writes for Right Wing News but sounds like a moderate), criticized Republican senators for not showing up to The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 19th Annual Legislative Conference. Allow me to state the obvious reason—one that Mr. Hawkins didn’t seem to catch with the other 18 events—why they didn’t and why it was a wise move not to.
The “Hispanic” Chamber of Commerce, by definition of its title, self-segregates (or “in-reaches” if you will), and people like Mr. Hawkins whine about Republicans not “outreaching” to them.
If anybody should be outreaching it should be the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (and every other racially designated organization), and the first outreach action they should take is to drop the RACIAL designation of their organization(s), which by default creates the need for such Hyphen-Nation outreaching in the first place.
The sole purpose of these hyphenated organizations is to tell everyone, “We are different. We cater to our kind.”
Before people like Mr. Hawkins show how overly enlightened they are above mere mortal Republicans, how about writing articles demanding these organizations drop the RACIAL barriers they erect so average Republicans can see them as they see most all other Americans—as Americans only!
What Mr. Hawkins is suggesting with political outreach is considered “Niche Marketing” in the business world.
But niche marketing politically as he proposes will only lead to the destruction of a cohesive “we’re all in this together” country.
He sees outreach as political niche marketing, a game of power and numbers. In the game called Country, we should not cater to anybody who separates themselves from the whole.
Again, why outreach to those that in-reach? George Bush tried it and all the Republicans could get was approximately 44% of the Hispanic vote.
But fear not, I predict that even the Democrats will not be able to cater enough to this ethnic lobby and eventually the newly formed “Hispanic/Latino Party” will fill the void and make suckers out of both parties (and Mr. Hawkins).
